MCW’s first youth community center, established in 2000, the Dr. Herman Wrice Community Center is located in the Majengo Juu neighborhood, in the Arusha district of Tanzania. The center honors the late Dr. Herman Wrice, founder of “Turn Around America” and one of MCW’s founding mentors. The community center offers various activities involving information technology (IT) education which focuses on basic and advanced computer literacy, business entrepreneurship, English and Spanish language education, and early childhood education. More than 500 students graduate from the programs each year. To learn more about the leadership team, click here. In addition, the center is home to the Perfect Youth Group (PYG), a youth-led team, which concentrates on youth empowerment through showcasing the creative talents of youth. The group creates, practices, and performs traditional and modern dance, acoustic and digital music, drama, comedy, and other performing arts. In 2008, the PYG won 3rd place in a major national dance contest held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The members of the PYG have a great impact on their community. |
