MIRACLE CORNERS SIERRA LEONE (MCSL)

FREETOWN COMMUNITY CENTER

In July 2007, the Mwakawago Community Center was created in par with a grant from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and a land grant from the Sierra Leone Police Department. The center is located in Kissy, a neighborhood in Eastern Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.

The center’s namesake, Ambassador Daudi Mwakawago, invited MCW to Sierra Leone in 2003 while he was acting Special Representative to the Secretary General with the United Nation’s Peace Keeping Mission to Sierra Leone. He is currently on the MCW Board of Advisors and continues to support

MCSL from his home in Tanzania.

Coming out of a ten year long civil war which ended in 2002, Sierra Leone is on the path to recovery. Through community development projects like the Mwakawago Center, youth are now strengthening their educations and learning vital skills which will keep Sierra Leone peaceful and democratic in the future.

The community center is home to yoga, karate, and volleyball teams which are nationally registered teams. It also has a community cafeteria, operated and maintained by local youth, a library, and IT classes. To learn more about the center’s leadership team, click here.
