WHAT MCW JACQUELINE'S HUMAN RIGHTS CORNER DOES
Programs > Partner Initiatives > Genocide Prevention >What MCW Jacqueline's Human Rights Corner Does
- Genocide Prevention Education: MCW Jacqueline's Human Rights Corner organizes genocide commemoration programs in New York, bringing together a wide range of partners to remember the Rwanda genocide, raise awareness about challenges facing survivors, and learn how to take action. Jacqueline shares her own personal story and insights as a survivor in a wide range of forums, including high schools, universities, synagogues, churches, mosques, and conferences on genocide prevention, human rights, and youth empowerment.
- MCW Community Center in Rwanda: MCW recently built a community center in the Bugesera District in Rwanda, approximately 30 minutes outside the capital Kigali. Modeled after MCW centers in Tanzania and Sierra Leone, the center aims to provide educational and vocational training in addition to social programs. As of January, 2012, programs at the center include a tailoring course, an English language course, an income-generating handicraft program, a Genocide Survivors' exchange group and a culture dance troupe, with many new programs in development.
